BASE
TRAINING

What is it?
Base Training is an essential component of the pilot’s Type Rating program as it is undertaken after the completion of the Skills Test. The training is conducted in a controlled environment under the close supervision of an experienced flight instructor, who guides the student pilot through every phase of the flight. The instructor imparts valuable knowledge, skills, and techniques onto the student pilot.
The objective of Base Training is to provide the pilot with hands-on experience that simulation cannot replicate. It also helps pilots to build muscle memory, enhance spatial awareness, and develop confidence.
During Base Training, pilots take to the skies in the real aircraft to prove their handling skills and their proficiency in the aircraft by performing a certain number of take-offs and landings and 1 go-around manoeuvre (the amount varies depending on previous jet aircraft experience). Pilots will perform visual patterns while flying manually the entire time to get a real feel for the aircraft.
After completion of the Base Training the license with the valid Type Rating will then be issued by the relevant authority, allowing them the right to commercially operate the aircraft type for an airline.
